FANCY’s Story as I know it
Fancy was foaled in 2004 and was shown as a racking mule for 2-3 years.
She was sold because of a nasty divorce to a family in Florida who raise and train TWH racking horses.
They used FANCY as a family trail mule, taking her to BUFFALO RIVER TRAIL RIDE in TN twice.
Their children rode FANCY and loved riding her.
Loss of a job and trying to keep the money-making end of the horses viable, the family sold FANCY to a friend of mine in south Florida a year ago. I remember when my friend e-mailed and told me about FANCY.
I saw the pictures of her. What a beautiful little girl. The husband went through some sort of cancer treatments and wasn’t able to ride Fancy. My friend is not a super confident rider and she really wasn’t sure about FANCY. She somehow wasn’t confident riding her. Kids rode her at the barn but no one over the year rode her very much on the trails.
My friend contacted me and eventually I ended up with FANCY.
I didn’t really want another mule. Had a barn full but FANCY has turned out to be a really fine mule and more fun than I would have imagined.
Took only three rides to pop a cow whip off her (I’m sure that was the first time FANCY had ever had that happen) and now she takes it totally in stride, both sides and over her head.
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time riding FANCY and she is really coming around after her year off.
She now has a one-rein stop/yields to the rein really nicely. Rides with loose rein when no one is up ahead of her but beside her.
She is soft in the mouth and isn’t pulling on the bit when she wants to go up to the front (what my friend didn’t know how to deal with); however, . . .
I use the one-rein stop to remind her that she can walk fast up to the lead animal as long as it is on a loose rein and doesn’t look like a gait or a running walk. WOW! Did that make a difference. It was what I had told the previous owner to teach FANCY but I don’t think she knew how.
So, FANCY is one of the most fun mules I’ve had the pleasure to ride. A young rider who rides KALEB our draft and I ride frequently, either in the woods or through miles of rural roads, which are fairly well populated.
We go where we want. Miranda trots and I keep up at a gait. Miranda canters, I canter. FANCY comes back down to walk fairly easily.
I point FANCY through the heavily wooded lots to go from one dirt road to the other and she goes. If she is apprehensive about something (oh my goodness, the garbage on the sides of the road!), we go up to it with “TOUCH” “TOUCH” and she will then be able to move on.
ANYONE who knows how to ride and wants a really fun, smooth, gorgeous gaited mule, FANCY might be a match for you.
I am 5’7” and 155 pounds. I never feel big on her. She takes a 16” mule saddle (western) or a flextree hornless saddle, more like English/endurance.
If you are looking for that special friendly mule as a family mule. FANCY might be the ticket to years and years of enjoyable trail rides and campouts.
COME TRY HER OUT. Spend a weekend and we will take you to different woods and settings. ! ! !
